<description><![CDATA[<P>SFA Alumni Association presents 2013 Alumni Awards<BR>Nov. 14, 2013 </P>
<P>NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor eight recipients at its annual Alumni Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Hotel Fredonia. </P>
<P>The SFA Alumni Association bestows its highest honors on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and community, committed themselves to advancing the values and goals of SFA, and ensured a better quality of life for future generations. This year’s recipients include: H.N. "Moe” Litton, Tom Boggus and Dr. Greg Powell, who will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award; Cory Beasley, Cody Corley and Ryan Emmons, who are being named Outstanding Young Alumnus; Dr. Leon Young, who will receive the Distinguished Professor Award; and SFA Hall of Fame Inductee Dr. Paul L. Boyton. </P>
<P>H.N. "Moe” Litton of Bridge City was an educator and coach for more than 30 years. He was a sports medicine consultant for Lake Charles Memorial in Lake Charles, La. until his retirement in 2008. He is a member of the SFA Letterman’s Association, Texas High School Coaches Association and National Athletic Trainers Associations and was inducted into the Southeast Texas Coaches Hall of Fame in 1999. </P>
<P>Tom Boggus, a resident of College Station, is the director of the Texas A&amp;M Forest Service. He began working for the Forest Service in 1980 and currently serves on the Advisory Council for SFA’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. Boggus served as president of the Texas Forestry Association in 2006 and helped developed the Texas A&amp;M Forest Service Strategic Plan for 2011 to 2015. </P>
<P>Dr. Greg Powell of Carthage has been the president of Panola College for more than a decade. Powell, a lifetime member of the SFA Alumni Association, is actively involved with the Panola County Chamber of Commerce, which honored him with the 2012 Citizen of the Year Award; Panola County Rotary Club and Panola County Industrial Development Foundation. </P>
<P>Cory Beasley, a native of Nacogdoches, is the executive vice president for Citizens 1st Bank. He currently serves on the SFA Recent Alumni Business Advisory Council, as well as being the advisory director for the Citizens 1st Bank Board. Beasley also has been a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder since 2003. </P>
<P>Cody Corley of Clear Lake is currently an attorney at NASA. Corley worked for the NASA Johnson Space Center for more than 10 years. He is a lifetime member of the SFA Alumni Association, American Bar Association and State Bar of Texas. He was presented the Peer Award from the Space Center’s Chief Counsel, as well as the Commendation Award and Superior Accomplishment Award from the center’s Director for Support to the Space Shuttle Program. </P>
<P>Ryan Emmons of The Woodlands is a certified public accountant and the internal audit lead manager at Newfield Exploration in The Woodlands. Emmons is a member of the SFA Alumni Association and the head of the housing corporation for SFA’s Sigma Tau Gamma alumni and active members. He also is a lifetime member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and Young Professionals in Energy. </P>
<P>Dr. Leon Young has been a professor in SFA’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture for more than 35 years. Young, a resident of Nacogdoches, also was appointed Regents Professor by the SFA Board of Regents in 2007. He was the former director of the SFA Soil, Plant and Water Analysis Laboratory and is active with the East Texas Regional Water Planning Group. Young was presented with the 2012 Agriculture Educator of the Year Award at the Nacogdoches County Agriculture Awareness and Appreciation Banquet. </P>
<P>Dr. Paul L. Boyton, former president of SFA from 1942 to 1958, was a member of the Nacogdoches Rotary Club and served as vice president and director of the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce and director-at-large of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce. Boyton served on several public service boards and was an instructor at numerous institutions before becoming president of SFA. Boyton’s grandson Paul Boyton, will accept this year’s Hall of Fame Award on his behalf, posthumously. </P>
<P>Dr. Baker Pattillo, SFA president, and Curtis Sparks, president of the SFA Alumni Association Board of Directors will present this year’s awards. </P>

<description><![CDATA[<P><STRONG>Interim executive director of SFA Alumni Association named </STRONG></P>
<P>Houston native Dale Green, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, has been named interim executive director of the SFA Alumni Association, effective today. </P>
<P>Green joined the Alumni Association staff as director of marketing and membership in January 2011. He previously served as vice president/director of training for a private professional development/corporate training firm in the North San Francisco Bay Area. He received a Bachelor of Arts in communication from SFA in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration from California State University-Sonoma in 2011. </P>
<P>"Dale is intimately familiar with the day-to-day operations of the SFA Alumni Association, so he is uniquely qualified to lead that office during this period of transition,” said Dr. Baker Pattillo, SFA president. "I am grateful that Dale has agreed to serve the Alumni Association and the university in this important role for the near future, and I am confident he will do so effectively and with distinction.” </P>
<P>Green’s appointment fills the position left vacant by previous Executive Director Jeff Davis, who is leaving SFA to head the Mississippi State University Alumni Association. </P>
<P>"We have a great staff that has put countless hours and boundless energy into connecting with our alumni on a personal level, and I’m pleased to help continue the forward momentum during this interim period,” Green said. </P>
<P>Green was in the Leadership Nacogdoches Class of 2012-13 and is an active member of the Nacogdoches Rotary Club where he serves on the Membership Development Committee. He also is a member of the Council of Alumni Association Marketing and Membership Professionals, Alumni Professionals of Texas and the Nacogdoches Jaycees. </P>
<P>A committee co-chaired by Curtis Sparks, president of the SFA Alumni Association Board of Directors, and Dr. Steve Westbrook, vice president for university affairs, has been appointed to direct the search for a permanent executive director. </P>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<P><STRONG>Mr. and Miss SFA award nominations due Nov. 8</STRONG></P>
<P>Nov. 5, 2013 </P>
<P>NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The deadline to nominate Stephen F. Austin State University seniors for Mr. and Miss SFA honors is Nov. 8. Nomination forms are available online at www.sfaalumni.com and at the SFA Alumni Association office in the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center. </P>
<P>Nominations may come from faculty and staff members or from an officer of any student organization of which the nominee is a member. Selections are made by a committee consisting of faculty and staff members, students, and alumni. Finalists will be contacted for interviews. </P>
<P>To be eligible, seniors must have completed 90 credit hours, with 48 of those hours completed at SFA, and must have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average. Candidates also must be within 12 months of graduating from SFA and also enrolled for the spring 2014 semester. Candidates must not have received this type of award from SFA or any other college or university in the past. </P>
<P>The Mr. and Miss SFA awards are presented each year by the SFA Alumni Association to exemplary students who well represent and promote SFA. Recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship, service, and loyalty to the university. </P>
<P>The Mr. SFA Award was established in honor of the late Stan McKewen, a 1934 SFA graduate. The Miss SFA Award was established in honor of Arnodean Covin, who was named Miss SFA in 1940, 1941 and 1942. </P>
<P>The awards will be presented during halftime of the Feb. 8, 2014, SFA Lumberjack basketball game. </P>

<title>2013 Homecoming set to begin at SFA</title>

<P><STRONG>2013 Homecoming set to begin at SFA </STRONG></P>
<P>The annual Stephen F. Austin State University Homecoming celebration begins Friday, Oct. 18 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 20. </P>
<P>The weekend festivities begin Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the SFA Alumni Golf Tournament at the Piney Woods Country Club. Entry fee is $150 and includes tournament play, cart, refreshments, box lunch and post-tournament hors d’oeuvres. The entry deadline is Monday, Oct. 15. </P>
<P>Join SFA alumni at Nine Flags Bar and The Patio at Hotel Fredonia from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the Homecoming weekend "Back in Nac” social event. Enjoy complimentary lumberjack-themed appetizers, purple beer and cocktails, drink specials, live music, a photo booth, and much more. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple. </P>
<P>There will be a free shuttle service from the hotel to the bonfire for those who wish to attend. The shuttle will begin at 8:15 p.m. in front of the hotel and run every 30 minutes. The last shuttle will leave the bonfire at 10:30 p.m. and return to the hotel. </P>
<P>The traditional Friday night events begin with the Alumni Legacy Dinner and Reception at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Fredonia. The dinner will honor Francis "Ab” Abernethy ’49 and the late Hazel Abernethy ’48 &amp; ’72 and will feature a live auction, the announcement of the winner of the $10,000 Benefit Drawing ticket, and special recognition of the Class of 1963 reunion attendees. Live auction items include: Dinner with the SFA President, Naming Alumni Drive, SFA Garden Stone, Hand Carved Sitton Duck and Wine, Dinner and Stay at Hotel Fredonia. </P>
<P>In addition to the live auction, this year will feature the 2nd annual Homecoming Online Auction. The online auction will feature highly rated items and activities to bid on. <P>Following the Legacy Dinner, attendees can relocate to the SFA Statue on campus to walk in the Torchlight Parade at 8:30 p.m. and meet at the Intramural Fields for the bonfire and pep rally. </P>
<P>The Homecoming fun resumes Saturday morning with the 5th annual Lumberjack Homecoming Certified 5K beginning in the parking lot behind the Schlief Tennis Complex. <P>The Class of 1963 Reunion Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Hotel Fredonia Convention Center in downtown Nacogdoches. </P>
<P>Alumni and friends also are invited to a pre-parade Alumni Coffee at 9 a.m. in the lobby of Hotel Fredonia. Onlookers will line the downtown streets for the 10 a.m. Homecoming parade that will feature colorful floats, marching bands and individual entries. </P>
<P>After the parade, the action moves to Alumni Corner for some pre-game tailgating, held on the corner of Raguet and Hayter streets. Tailgating begins at noon and ends at 2:30 p.m. Alumni Corner tickets are free for Alumni Association members, $10/non-members, children ages 10 and under accompanied by an adult are $5 and children younger than five eat free. The ‘Welcome Back to the Pineywoods’ menu will consist of carved herb roasted pork loin with Dijon white wine sauce, roasted potatoes, green beans, whole baby carrots, hot dinner rolls, and cake for dessert. </P>
<P>The Homecoming Alumni Corner will once again feature the Suddenlink "Bundle U” Viewing Lounge and the Junior Jacks Kids Zone, where kids can enjoy bouncers, face stickers, hair painting and other fun games for free. The first 100 kids who go to the Junior Jacks Kids Zone will receive a free SFA Homecoming T-shirt. The Junior Jacks Kids Zone is sponsored by Nacogdoches Pediatric Dentistry and Little Jacks Pediatrics.At noon, hundreds of yellow rubber ducks will race at the Ag Pond for more than $2,600 worth of prizes in the 23rd annual Duck Dash. Proceeds from the Duck Dash go to the SFA Alumni Scholarship Fund administered by the SFA Alumni Association. Ducks may be sponsored for $5 each or six ducks for $25. Ducks may be sponsored until Oct. 18. </P>
<P>The annual football game, the highlight of Homecoming weekend, is set for 3 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium, as the SFA Lumberjacks take on the Nicholls State Colonels. <P><STRONG>Children of the court to ride in parade </STRONG></P>
<P>Brandon Turnage, of Whitehouse and Aria Nunn, of Nacogdoches, will serve as children of the court during the homecoming celebration Oct. 18 and 19 at Stephen F. Austin State University. </P>
<P>Brandon is the 10-year-old son of Craig Turnage, a 2000 and 2005 graduate of SFA, and Tonya Turnage, a 1999 SFA graduate. Craig is a Senior Development Officer in the Office of Development at SFA and Tonya is an Instructional Coach for Tyler Independent School District. Brandon is a 5th grader at Cain Elementary and is vice president of the Cain Elementary National Honors Society. He also plays soccer on the Bullets soccer team. </P>
<P>Aria is the 5-year-old daughter of Monique and Arlington Nunn. Monique is a Grant Project Coordinator for the James I. Perkins College of Education and Arlington is the assistant head coach for the SFA Football Team. Aria is in kindergarten at Christ Episcopal School and loves singing, dancing, playing with her friends, and being the life of any party. </P>
<P>Brandon and Aria will ride in the homecoming parade and participate in the crowning of the SFA homecoming queen during halftime of the SFA vs. Nicholls State University football game which begins at 3 p.m. in Homer Bryce Stadium. </P>

<P><STRONG>Legacy Dinner to honor Abernethy mark on SFA </STRONG></P>
<P>The traditional Friday night events begin with the Alumni Legacy Dinner and Reception at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Fredonia on Friday, October 18. The dinner will honor Francis "Ab” Abernethy ’49 and the late Hazel Abernethy ’48 &amp; ’72. Reservations are $50 per person, $90 per couple or $350 for a table of eight. Cocktail reception begins at 6:00 p.m. at the hotel lobby and The Vault and the dinner will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the Banita Ballroom. The live auction and Benefit Drawing will begin at 8:00 p.m. </P>
<P>Dr. Francis E. "Ab” Abernethy ’49 is Professor Emeritus of English at SFA and Editor Emeritus of the Texas Folklore Society. The 85-year-old Panhandle and Pineywoods Texan is the curator of exhibits for the East Texas Historical Association and a member of the Texas Institute of Letters. Abernethy holds a Ph.D. in Renaissance literature and joined the SFA faculty in 1965. For the 32 years, he taught world literature, Shakespeare, folklore and many more subjects to countless SFA students. The walls of Abernethy’s Texas Folklore Society office in the basement of the Rusk Building contain a dizzying array of artifacts and mementos he has collected during a lifetime of adventuring. Still, of SFA, Abernethy says, "There’s no place on earth I would rather be than on this campus.” </P>
<P>Hazel Shelton Abernethy died in Nacogdoches on March 22, 2012. Hazel was born in Nacogdoches on May 20, 1927, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shelton, who had come to Nacogdoches in 1923 as a faculty family for the opening of Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College. Coach Bob Shelton was SFA's first coach and athletic director and later was Dean of Men. </P>
<P>She graduated from SFA in 1948, where she was Miss SFA and Carolyn Thompson Hill Award recipient. She received her M.A. from SFA in 1971 and taught in SFA's history department. At one time Hazel was teaching history at SFA, her husband was teaching English, and her son Robert was teaching geology. All of her children attended SFA, and Hazel was a devoted alumna. Hazel married Francis E. "Ab” Abernethy, her high school sweetheart, on June 12, 1948. </P>
<P>At the event there will be a live auction, the announcement of the winner of the $10,000 Benefit Drawing ticket and special recognition of the Class of 1963 reunion attendees. Live auction items include: Dinner with the SFA President, Naming Alumni Drive, SFA Garden Stone, Hand Carved Sitton Duck and Wine, Dinner and Stay at Hotel Fredonia.</P>

<P>SFA Alumni Ducks have been training all season for the big race set to start on Oct. 19 to raise scholarship funds during the annual Homecoming celebration at Stephen F. Austin State University. </P>
<P>The 23rd annual SFA Alumni Association Duck Dash features toy ducks racing on a specialized course to claim prizes, while raising funds for the SFA Alumni Scholarship Fund. The Duck Dash will begin at noon at the SFA Ag Pond located near Homer Bryce Stadium. </P>
<P>Ducks may be sponsored for $5 each or six ducks for $25. The deadline for sponsoring a duck is October 18. Prizes totally in approximately $2,600 will be awarded to holders of winning ducks. <P><STRONG>40th Annual SFA Alumni Golf Tournament tees up </STRONG></P>
<P>Registration has begun for the 40th Annual SFA Alumni Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 18 at Piney Woods Country Club and starts off the university’s annual Homecoming weekend at Stephen F. Austin State University. </P>
<P>Entry fee is $150 per person or $600 for a team and includes tournament play, cart, refreshments, box lunch and post tournament hor d’oeuvres. Entry forms are available at the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center on the SFA campus or online at <A href="https://www.sfaalumni.com/event/Homecoming2013">www.sfaalumni.com/event/Homecoming2013</A>. </P>
<P>Registration is at 9:30 a.m. on tournament day, and the tournament begins at 11:00 a.m. The format is four-player scramble. Players may enter as a single or assemble their own four-player teams. </P>
<P>All contestants will receive tee gifts. Prizes will be awarded to gross and net winners. An award presentation will immediately follow the tournament. </P>
<P>The tournament is sponsored by endowments honoring T.P. White ’38, J. Harold Bates ’34 and R. Leon Hutchison ’49, where proceeds on the tournament will benefit alumni scholarships. In the last several years, players and hole sponsors in the tournament have added more than $350,000 to the SFA Scholarship Fund that is administered by the SFA Alumni Association. </P>

<P><STRONG>5th annual Lumberjack Homecoming Certified 5K </STRONG></P>
<P>The SFA Campus Recreation Center and the SFA Alumni Association will host the Lumberjack Homecoming Certified 5K. Taking their marks on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8 a.m. students, alumni and families can walk or run the course. </P>
<P>The race will begin in the parking lot behind Schlief Tennis Complex, corner of Wilson and Starr. The runners wave will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and the walkers will begin at 8:10 a.m. </P>
<P>Students can pre-register for $20. Faculty, staff, alumni, and community can pre-register for $25. The prices will increase by $10 starting Oct. 11. <P>Live music festival to benefit SFA Alumni scholarships </P>
<P>Purchase tickets today to attend the Barn Burner Old Town Jam, an all-day (rain or shine), outdoor live music festival benefitting SFA Alumni scholarships, from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at The Barn Bar &amp; Grill, 2304 North St. </P>
<P>The line-up includes some of Texas and Nashville’s country music stars like Cory Morrow, Steel Magnolia, Rich O’Toole, Johnny Cooper, Lincoln Durham, Folk Family Revival, Mark McKinney and The Bigsbys. </P>
<P>General admission tickets are $25 pre-sale and $30 at the door, and limited VIP tickets are $100. <title>Academic Shootout to raise funds for Ladyjack basketball scholarships</title>

<description><![CDATA[<P>The Ladyjack Academic Shootout will take the court Thursday, March 7, at Stephen F. Austin State University to raise summer semester and fifth-year student scholarships for the Ladyjack basketball program. </P>
<P>The Shootout will take place during the 6 p.m. game between the SFA Ladyjacks and Sam Houston State University. Members of the PURPLE PRIDE Fast Break Booster Club are soliciting pledges and accepting donations. Supporters may either pledge an amount per point earned by the Ladyjacks during the game or donate a flat amount. A post-game presentation will reveal the total amount raised for the team. </P>
<P>Brandon Schneider, Ladyjack basketball head coach, said the Academic Shootout is a crucial source of support for the women’s basketball program. </P>
<P>"As a basketball program, we are judged by two records, our win-loss record and our graduation rate. We are asking supporters help ensure that our student-athletes are given every opportunity to succeed in the classroom and earn their degree. All funds raised from the Academic Shootout go directly to players’ tuition.” </P>

</p><p><span style="font-weight: bold;">SFA Lumberjack Marching Band performed in London New Year's Parade</span>&nbsp;</p><p>The Stephen F. Austin State University's Lumberjack Marching
Band took "Boldest Sound from the Oldest Town" to the 2013 London New
Year's Day Parade &amp; Festival on January 1, 2013.&nbsp;</p>Members of the Lumberjack Marching Band led the
27th annual New Year's Day Parade down the streets from Piccadilly Circle to
Trafalgar Square in London. The band was directed by drum major Dwight Watson
of Wiley. In addition to marching in the parade, the band performed in a
concert in Cadogan Hall, toured the Royal Naval College and the Royal
Observatory, and visited the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey.<br><br>Deputy Lord Lieutenant Roger Bramble,
representing Queen Elizabeth II, traveled to SFA in 2011 from London to present
the official invitation to the band in person. Each fall, the Lieutenancy
decides upon a select number of groups that it wishes to visit in the United
States in connection with London's New Year's Day Parade. Bramble was
accompanied to SFA by Robert Bone, executive director of the
parade.&nbsp;"You came to our attention because everybody has told us that
you are one of the finest marching bands in the country," Bramble said
during his visit, which was punctuated with lively musical performances and
enthusiastic applause from band members.&nbsp;<br><br>Accepting the invitation on behalf of the
Lumberjack Marching Band was Dr. David W. Campo, director.&nbsp;"I am so
thrilled we'll be able to offer this opportunity for our students to travel
abroad and see London," he said. "It is also very exciting to bring
some international recognition to the university, which has been so supportive
of the band program for so many years."<br><br>Campo took about 300 members of the marching
band to participate in the 27th annual parade, which is watched by more than
600,000 spectators and televised to 280 million people around the world. More
than 20 different countries will be represented in the parade and associated

heading to Natchitoches for SFA Basketball double-header</span></p>

<p>The SFA Alumni Association will be providing a bus for
SFA Alumni and Fans from Nacogdoches to Natchitoches, LA on Saturday, January
26<sup>th</sup>, 2013 to the SFA Lumberjack/Ladyjack Basketball games vs.
Northwestern State. </p>

<p></p>

<p>The fan bus will depart promptly at 9:15 a.m. on
Saturday, January 26<sup>th</sup> from the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center and will
stop for lunch and arrive at Prather Coliseum prior to the Ladyjack 1 p.m.
tip-off. The bus will depart that evening and stop for dinner following
the conclusion of the Lumberjack game for the return trip to Nacogdoches. </p>

<p>For those interested, seats on the fan bus are $35 per
person, and must be reserved in advance by calling the SFA Alumni Association
at (936) 468-3407. </p>

<p>Space is limited and reservations will be secured on a
first come first serve basis. Tickets to the game are separate from the
price of riding the bus. General admission game tickets for the double header
can be purchased at Northwestern State Ticket window prior to the game for

<p>Craig Wright of Flowermound and Chrystina Wyatt of
Cedar Hill have been chosen for the 2013 Mr. and Miss SFA award. The two
students will be honored at halftime of the SFA men’s basketball game
betweenSFA and Oral Roberts on February 9 at 6 p.m. </p>

<p></p>

<p>The Mr. SFA Award was established in honor of the late
Stan McKewen, a 1934 SFA graduate. The Miss SFA Award was established in honor
of Arnodean Covin, who was named Miss SFA in 1940, 1941 and 1942. </p>

<p></p>

<p>Wright, who received the Stan McKewen Mr. SFA Award, is
a senior at the university and is majoring in horticulture. A 2006 graduate of Flowermound
High School, he is the son of Richard and Tamara Wright of Flowermound. </p>

<p></p>

<p>Wright currently serves as president of the Traditions
Council, and has served as a counselor and student director for Jack Camp. He
serves as recorder for the SFA Sigma Nu fraternity and is a member of the
Horticulture Club. Wright works at the Rec Center as Head Lifeguard of the pool
and as a fitness assistant. In addition, Wright was chosen as an Orientation
Leader, J-Walker with Office of Admissions, and is an active member with Cross
Point at Grace Bible Church. He has received the Houston Livestock and Rodeo
Scholarship three years in a row for GPA in the Agriculture Department. He was selected
Member of the Year for Traditions Council for spring 2010-2011. He also
received Head Guard of the Year of the Campus Rec Pool in 2011. He was on the
Dean’s List in Fall 2010, Spring 2011 and Spring 2012. </p>

<p></p>

<p>Wyatt, who received the Arnodean Covin Miss SFA Award,
is a graduate student majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies. A 2007 graduate of
Duncanville High School, she is the daughter of Steven and Regina Wyatt of Cedar
Hill.</p>

<p></p>

<p>Wyatt is the Historian for Omicron Delta Kappa, SFA’s
leadership honor society, and serves as a member of Driving Jacks. She has served
as Student Affairs student assistant, a Campus Rec graduate assistant, a SFA
101 Student Instructor and served as a tree-time Jack Camp counselor. Wyatt
coordinated and facilitated activities for Welcome Jacks, NIRSA Career
Opportunity Center Committee, and the BIG Event. Her list of honors includes
the President’s Volunteer Service Award, a Who’s Who Among Students in American
Universities &amp; Colleges and Academic Excellence Scholarship. </p>

<p>The Mr. and Miss SFA title is an award presented each
year by the SFA Alumni Association to exemplary students who well represent and
promote SFA. Recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation
and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship and
service and loyalty to the university. Selections are made by a committee of

<title>Mr. and Miss SFA award nominations due Nov. 9 </title>

<P><STRONG>Mr. and Miss SFA award nominations due Nov. 9 </STRONG></P>
<P>The deadline to nominate SFA seniors for the Mr. and Miss SFA honors is Nov. 9. Nomination forms are available online at www.sfaalumni.com and at the SFA Alumni Association in the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center. </P>
<P>Nominations may come from faculty, staff members or from an officer of a student organization of which the nominee is a member. Selections are made by a committee consisting of faculty, staff, students and alumni. Finalists will be contacted for interviews. </P>
<P>To be eligible, SFA seniors must have completed 90 credit hours, with 48 of those hours completed at SFA, and must have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average. Candidates also must be within 12 months of graduating from SFA and also enrolled in the 2013 Spring semester. Candidates must not have received this type of award from SFA or any other college or university. </P>
<P>The Mr. and Miss SFA title is an award presented each year by the SFA Alumni Association to exemplary students who well represent and promote SFA. Recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship and service and loyalty to the university. </P>
<P>The Mr. SFA Award was established in honor of the late Stan McKewen, a 1934 SFA graduate. The Miss SFA Award was established in honor of Arnodean Covin, who was named Miss SFA in 1940, 1941 and 1942. </P>
<P>The awards will be presented during halftime of the Feb. 9, 2013 SFA Lumberjack Basketball game. </P>
<P>To apply, please download and complete the application form that can be found at www.sfaalumni.com. Applications are due Nov. 9 and should be turned into the Alumni Association in the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center. </P>

<title>SFA Alumni Association starts off the season at the Alumni Corner</title>

<description><![CDATA[<P>Alumni Corner is a great pre-game atmosphere to enjoy great food, fun, and fellowship with other SFA Alumni and friends prior to each Lumberjack Football home game. This season the Alumni Association is excited to be adding the Suddenlink viewing lounge with college football games showing prior to Lumberjack home games. </P>
<P>At each game we will have a delicious meal prepared by Chef Dean with Classic Fare Catering. In addition to ice tea and water, we will have beverages from R&amp;K Distributors, and a sheet cake will be served for dessert. </P>
<P>Alumni Association Members, Alumni, and Fans can gain access to the Alumni Corner by purchasing a season or single game tailgate pass. </P>

<title>SFA Fan Bus heading to Lumberjack vs. SMU Football Game</title>

<description><![CDATA[<P>The SFA Alumni Association will be providing a bus for SFA Alumni and Fans from Nacogdoches to Dallas on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 to the SFA Lumberjack vs. SMU Football game at Ford Field in Dallas. </P>
<P>The fan bus will depart promptly at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th from the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center and will arrive in Dallas for a pre-game BBQ dinner at the SFA tailgate on the Boulevard prior to the 7 p.m. game kickoff. The bus will depart that evening following the conclusion of the game for the return trip to Nacogdoches. </P>
<P>For those interested, seats on the fan bus are $40 per person, and must be reserved in advance by calling the SFA Alumni Association at (936) 468-3407. </P>
<P>Space is limited and reservations will be secured on a first come first serve basis. Tickets to the game are separate from the price of riding the bus. Game tickets can be purchased at the SFA ticket office by calling (936) 468-JACK. </P>

<title>Harris, Furche named Mr., Miss SFA</title>

<description><![CDATA[<img style="margin-right: 10px;" alt="" title="" src="https://www.sfaalumni.com/resource/resmgr/news/dsc_0026.jpg" align="left">Saville Harris of Livingston and Casey Furche of Keller were chosen as the 2012 recipients of the Mr. and Miss SFA Awards, presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association.<br><br>The Mr. and Miss SFA title is an award presented each year to exemplary students who best represent and promote SFA. The Mr. SFA Award was established in honor of the late Stan McKewen, a 1934 SFA graduate. The Miss SFA Award was established in honor of Arnodean Covin, who was named Miss SFA in 1940, 1941 and 1942.<br><br>Saville Harris received the Stan McKewen Mr. SFA Award. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from SFA in 2010, and is currently a graduate student at the university majoring in kinesiology. A 2006 graduate of Livingston High School, he is the son of Sylvester and Florida Harris of Livingston.<br><br>Harris has been honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award three times for his service to SFA and the community. He has been named Student Activities Association Member of the Year, Orientation Leader of the Year and Junior Homecoming Duke and is a recipient of the 1923 Society Award.<br><br>He has served as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and fellowship vice president of Alpha Phi Omega, as well as a team leader for Driving Jacks. Harris is involved in the Student Activities Association and Student Foundation Association and has served as an Orientation Supervisor and a Jack Camp tribal leader. His community service includes participation in the MLK Day of Service, The BIG Event, the Nacogdoches Boys and Girls Club, the Texas Blueberry Festival and the March of Dimes.<br><br>Furche received the Arnodean Covin Miss SFA Award. She is a senior majoring in cinematography. A 2008 graduate of Keller High School, she is the daughter of Kent and Kelly Furche of Keller.<br><br>Furche has served as president and vice president of the SFA Panhellenic Association, a representative of the United Greek Council, treasurer of Order of Omega, editor of the Stone Fort Yearbook and a Jack Camp counselor. She has also served as historian of Alpha Chi Omega and a member of the Psychology Club, as well as vice president of the Residence Hall Association.<br><br>Furche’s SFA honors include membership in the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, Senior Homecoming Duchess and the Most Outstanding Freshman Award from the Panhellenic Association. She is a two-time recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Her community service includes involvement in the Women’s Shelter of East Texas, the East Texas Humane Society and the Texas Adopt-a-Highway program.<br><br>Mr. and Miss SFA award recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship, and service and loyalty to the university.
