Sponsorships are now being taken for tiny yellow rubber ducks as they get ready for their Oct. 24 race to raise scholarship funds during the 81st annual Homecoming celebration at Stephen. F. Austin State University.

            The 19^th annual Duck Dash features tiny toy ducks racing to claim prizes while raising funds for the SFA Alumni Scholarship Fund administered by the SFA Alumni Association/Foundation.  A colorful favorite of the SFA Homecoming weekend, the Duck Dash begins at noon at a specially designed track at Lumberjack Alley, located in the commuter parking lot in front of Johnson Coliseum.

            Ducks may be sponsored for $5 per duck, six ducks for $25, 12 for $50, 18 for $75 or 24 for $100.  The deadline for sponsoring ducks is Oct. 23.

Prizes totaling $2,400 will be awarded to holders of winning ducks.  The prizes include $1,000 SFA Scholarship, Jack Backers College Bookstore, grand prize; 2^nd runner up, $500 set of tires, Boatman Tire and Service; 3^rd runner up, $500 Scholarship, SFA Barnes & Noble Bookstore; 4^th runner up, $100 gift card, Wal-Mart; 5^th runner up, $100 gift certificate, Tem-Kil; 6^th runner up, $100 gift certificate, Casa Tomas; and 7^th runner up, $100 gift certificate, KFC.

Funds raised by the various special events during Homecoming go into the SFA Alumni Scholarship Fund.  Proceeds from the Silent Auction, Duck Dash, Benefit Drawing, alumni golf tournament and other activities combined to raise more than $74,000 last year.
