Okay, so unfortunately, Thanksgiving was much too short. Fortunately, I am done with school next Wednesday and I will have successfully gotten through my first semester of college. It has been a very hard semester for me, being an all A student in high school make it a bit more shocking when I got to SFA and wasn’t pulling the same average. With next week being finals, I am very nervous, there are two classes that I am kind of on that line with and I am very nervous about getting through them. I feel prepared, but at the same time, I have very bad test anxiety so, well, I guess we will just have to see.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I feel like time has flown by, I never expected for college to go buy as fast as the first semester has. Thankfully, I love Christmas and it is only a week away. SFA has decorated the entire campus in hopes of getting the students ready for the break, and campus is truly gorgeous. There was a lighting ceremony, that I was unfortunately unable to attend, but I was told it was very fun. Coming up in the next two weeks there are events such as the Russian Ballet coming to perform the Nutcraker, a book drive, the Mentor Ring Ceremony, and a holiday decorations ceremony. While we are all very stressed out getting reading for finals, SFA has done a good job to make it to where we are able to take a break for at least a few hours a day with a fun event.

Other than all of this for me, it is honestly study, study, study. I am doing my best to get through next week and get a break and then start off fresh next semester. I learned this semester that taking 16 hours was WAY too many, at least for me, and I have dropped it down to thirteen next semester so hopefully I will be able to truly get involved in some activities on campus.

I would love some help in trying to figure out what kind of organization to join on campus. What organizations were you involved in while at SFA and what were they like? Again, I would love your input, and enjoy the holidays!

Also, meant to have pictures with this post, will make sure and get those as soon as the weather cleans up.

Thanksgiving

So, how about those Lumberjacks?!? Last weekend was a very exciting one with basketball starting off successfully and the football boys bringing Chief Caddo home! I can honestly say that I am ecstatic to go to the football game on Saturday.

I cannot believe that it is already Thanksgiving. I feel like just last week it was welcome week and now we have Thanksgiving and then finals. As we have moved through the semester I have realized how “unprepared” I was for college. One of the big things that I have come to love about SFA is that they address that preparation. Whether it is the AARC, teacher’s office hours, or the counseling office, there is always somewhere where your issues can be addressed.

Furthermore, as we move closer and closer to finals I begin to realize how very stressed I am at this point. Needless to say, Thanksgiving is readily welcomed. I am thankful to SFA for providing different events for us to attend in which we are able to have a little bit of fun amidst all the chaos.

So, now I am heading home (Wow how weird that is going to be!) for the holidays and will write again when I am back from the break. Everyone have a blessed Turkey Day!

Although stressful at times, there is always something to get involved in to “distract” your brain from collapsing. I realize it has been a while since I last blogged, I do apologize I had some medical issues that took precedence. Regardless, here is the Homecoming blog that I promised would come…

As a freshman, you are not quite sure what to expect when Homecoming comes around. You have had your own homecomings in high school, but that, in no way, compares to what comes at college. I started the week of homecoming in very high spirits. The events that were planned for that week were, to say the least, amazing. I went to five of the many events of Homecoming at SFA, those being the Pre-torch parade, the torch parade, the pep rally, the town parade, and the football game. I never thought that I would be able to see as many students as I did so pumped up for their football team and their school. To everyone who participated in the Friday night and Saturday festivities, I applaud you. The staff at SFA made homecoming a very memorable event for all the students involved and to top it off, our SFA Lumberjacks beat Sam Houston for the first time in many years!

My name is Sydney. I was recently offered a "position" as a freshman blog writer with the SFA Alumni Association to keep everyone up to date with what is going on in college life from a student’s point of view. There are so many different things that we as students are going through, and it is my hope that I at least give you some insight into the life of a college freshman and that you are maybe able to see the differences of now from when you were in college.
