We are a member-based 501-c3 non-profit organization that is funded by membership dues, individual donations and income from fundraising activities and affinity partner programs.
The financial support the association receives from Stephen F. Austin State University comes in the form of employee benefits and partial salaries. The SFA Alumni Association has a staff of nine full-time individuals, one part-time worker and typically three-to-five student workers who work as part of the alumni team.
While a majority of our alumni live in Texas, a great number of our Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks are scattered across the U.S. and abroad. More than 102,000 degrees have been awarded to students since the first graduating class in 1925. Currently, we have approximately 93,300 alumni in our database, and about 89,000 are living alumni. We have valid addresses for about 87,700 of the living alumni. Only about 7,100 of the SFA family are "lost Lumberjacks.”
Organized in 1928, the SFA Alumni Association maintains an active office on campus to foster good fellowship and loyalty among former students and friends, to encourage the educational ideals for which the university stands for and to promote general interest of SFA. In addition to maintaining addresses of former students, the SFA Alumni Association sponsors a number of scholarships and awards, publishes the quarterly Sawdust magazine and serves as a sponsor for the annual Homecoming weekend at the university.
The SFA Alumni Foundation is a separate entity organized in 1970 to manage the SFA Alumni Scholarship Fund, which currently is valued at approximately $20 million. The purpose of the SFA Alumni Foundation is to solicit, manage and recognize private donations for the support of scholarships at Stephen F. Austin State University.
